„SOUND(E)SCAPES“

… A New Massive Album is … OUT NOW!

Foolstop has been working on an extensive double album for more than 4 years. A double album? In view of people’s current listening habits and a completely changed music culture, a rather unusual step. Sebastian Lambeck reveals here why he did it anyway and what the new album means for Foolstop.

Someone once told me that he listened to „The Rainbow“ for the first time in the car at a wonderful sunrise. I read something similar in the book „A Perfect Silence“. I can well imagine that such a moment can be magical and linger in the memory forever. My first contact with the Spirit of Eden album was much less spectacular. I simply sat at the dining table, put on my headphones and took them off again many hours later. Like for many others, this album and its successor was a radical and definitve turning point for me. A liberation. A liberation that I already sensed when listening to Van Morrison, Miles Davis or The Velvet Underground. A liberation in terms of what music can be to me if I no longer subordinate myself to the prevailing constraints of an overburdened world.

Since then, writing and recording songs has become an end in itself for me, a kind of therapy. With the realization that I can only approach contentment if I live out my form of creativity unfiltered and without consideration for others, it has become easier for me to endure the prevailing traits of our time, namely dogmatism, envy, greed, arrogance and selfishness. It’s fucking bullshit to think that music is about reaching or pleasing others. The value of someone’s work cannot be measured by the applause of strangers. It is the confrontation with our own small being in the middle of an infinite universe that shapes us as a person and leads us to creation. We alone, we create this value to ourselves. Meanwhile, the audience has fallen silent. What remains is a sound, a song, a melody that I infuse with life to somehow make this whole shitty mess of a world bearable. Creations like „Spirit of Eden“, „Common One“, „In a Silent Way“ and some other groundbreaking pieces of music (to me) have opened my eyes to what music can give me: Freedom! Because if I don’t have to please anyone anymore, I have the freedom to do whatever I want. And Sound(e)scapes is my start to that!

Of course I am happy when there are people in this world who (still) recognise this attempt and perhaps even appreciate it. Every single listener puts a smile on my face, for sure! It’s really great to know that others out there are responding to me by listening to my songs. But the best thing for me is to have made these songs. Making music is simply the greatest way for me to express things that I would never dare to say verbally. And everything I get rid of in the process of making a song no longer eats too deep into my soul. There is no better therapy.

With that said, I created 24 songs over four years. These 24 songs are not only my musical journey to freedom, they are also a fuck-off for all these useless constraints that we subject ourselves to every day – consciously or subconsciously. Back off with all that shit! This is real me now. And these are my Sound(e)scapes.

NEW ALBUM „DISTORTED MOODS“ – OUT NOW

It took some time – but here we finally are: Foolstop proudly declares the release of the new album „Distorted Moods“. Along with the lines „cause there is someone here on this lonesome ride taking notice of this great divide…“ I would like to thank all of the folks, that supported me over the years of writing, recording and mixing this album. As Foolstop is an independent artist it is not my duty to make money with this. Instead I hope to reach people who love new music, new experiences in tone, who love to sit down and just have a listen to something that they hopefully understand, share and maybe even fall in love with.

Thanks

Sebastian

More music is finally on the way

Foolstop is currently working on several projects, including two very different albums and a new EP. There’s a lot to do, but the good news is that the EP will be released in the coming weeks. It is named „dark / light“ and it combines the musical essence of what Foolstop has become: alternative folk paired with post-rock and a good dose of jazz. As soon as the EP is released, you’ll find out on this page and our social media channels. Just a little more patience.
